Thanks for the update. I know the progress can feel slow and exhausting, but for those of us following from afar it seems like a herculean task that you and your compadres have pulled off at an astounding pace. Can't wait to see it all in person this fall!

I got to stop by and check out all this on July 5th. Wow! The garden is awesome! We're still eating off the produce we brought home with us. That big zuchinni was totally solid all the way through - not hollow and seedy like one would expect. The spirit of Findhorn has taken root at Maya Creek. And it was so cool to see the sun and wind electrifying the veins of the power system. The inside of the strawbale house is acoustically amazing. It's cool, it's deeply quiet. It feels really good. And I think it's only going to get better.
Here's to the Friends of Maya Creek becoming an unstoppable growing and protective force of mother earth.

It's beautiful to see that both traditional and experimental projects are underway. I'll be stopping by next week with some family members that are going to be staying in the Williamsburg area. We'll use email and phones to coordinate.

I'm glad to see you're making good progress! I hope the wind turbine works out for you. Jack's Fork is a great place to visit, you should take a trip to Arcadia Valley sometime as well. Taum Sauk and Elephant Rocks are great areas to go hiking. I do most of my camping out there.

If you start to have serious issues with mosquitos, I would suggest building some bat houses and put some mosquito fish (gambusia) in your pond. (I'm assuming that's the main source of standing water for their larvae to hatch in). As far as ticks go, I'm told free range fowl are the best environmentally friendly means of control.

Cheers,

I love love love the little tendrils and flowers the peas get. And that fawn is just too special. Deer have a kind of innocent energy around them, especially the young ones. If someone were so inclined, there would be great nature prints to be had and possibly sold.

Thanks for the great update! The garden does look great and I'm so glad you have a fence around the perimeter to keep critters from munching on your veggies. We're way down here near the Gulf of Mexico where we've got a huge environmental disaster unfolding because of our insatiable appetite for crude oil. It made us really happy to see and hear that wind generator cranking out kilowatts replacing the gas powered generator. Hope more people get to see your straw bale house. It's an impressive structure. I saw a chart once that showed the energy intensity of using various building materials and straw bales was about as close to sustainable construction as it gets. Hope to get back for another working visit soon.

I love that the solution to so many environmental problems just involves a 10-gallon bucket.
